Eliminate Instead of Organize

Eliminate instead of organize.

This idea was a game changer for me.

I’ve always felt the pull of minimalism, but used to keep things out of guilt. Guilt because I spent money on this thing or because someone else gave me that thing. There was always a reason I “had” to keep something, so I kept a lot of things I didn't actually like or use.

I’m slowly learning that just because something made me happy in the past doesn’t mean I have to keep it forever.  And just because someone gave something to me doesn’t mean I’m obligated to keep that forever either.

With that in mind, I’ve slowly been weeding out with every new house...this past January was the 40th time I've packed up, moved my stuff, unpacked and attempted to settle in. Shocking, isn't it? I've noticed that with each transition, the more I leave behind, the better I feel because I’m left with what I truly value and enjoy.

And I’ve found that by having less, my home is always tidy with hardly any effort on my part. There’s no need to organize and reorganize anymore. I’m simply eliminating and finding the perfect spot for each item that I’m choosing to keep.

It’s pretty therapeutic!

Do you find yourself always reorganizing and tidying?  Why don’t you give minimalism a try.  You’ll be hooked on how good it feels to clean out and have empty, open spaces.
