Keep Papers Organized In 5 Steps

I love keeping everything organized, including papers! It feels so good to stay on top of things, even the little things. So here is how I do it:

1. Always bring all incoming papers to one spot, as soon as it enters your house.

2. At least once a month, file all supporting documents for tax returns and any other important documents. Toss everything else.

3. At the end of each year, put all the papers from that year together in a file, so that each categorized file is now empty and ready for the new year’s papers.

4. Once you have your latest tax return, shred your tax return from 8 years ago. You always need to keep the latest 7 years of tax returns, but no more than that.

5. Repeat forever to stay organized and never stress again over where your important documents have been misplaced.
